Last week, Portland superstars Karen and Victoria took to the skies in support of Hector Howlett!
Parents Tara and Lee were devastated when Hector, then 11 months old, was diagnosed with Alpers’ Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, and given just months to live. They decided that they wanted to focus on enjoying their time with Hector, and ensure that Hector leaves behind a legacy, in the form of a play park near the family home.
Heeding the call, our HR officer Victoria and Manager Karen strapped on their parachutes and jumped from 15,000ft in the air to raise money.
Speaking of the experience, Victoria told us “I couldn’t breathe, I felt like I wanted to cry when I hit the ground”.” She added “the sky dive was horrific but it was worth it to support such amazing charities and to honour Hector on his birthday. Thank you to everyone who has supported us with Hector’s first birthday sky dive.”
The money will help pay for the play park to be built in tribute to Hector, and fund charity The Lily Foundation, which funds research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of mitochondrial disease as well as supporting families living with the disease.
